Pinterest for Educators

Pinterest is a bookmarking tool that saves images from the Web (pins) into categories (boards). The web tool or app then gives users the option of sharing these pins/boards within the Pinterest social network.

I began using Pinterest as a mom searching for crafty ideas to make with my kiddos. The number of ADORABLE kid projects was overwhelming in a great way! I kept thinking how much teachers would love this tool for sharing classroom activity ideas. So I made a board in my Pinterest account named Pinterest Workshop and put all the 'pins' I wanted to cover in there. If you missed my workshop in November you can follow me on Pinterest here or follow my Pinterest workshop board. Happy Pinning!

Polyvore is a website that lets people create collages of apparel and accessories using images from any online store. I stumbled upon Polyvore because I kept seeing collages of fashionable outfits on Pinterest. And after clicking on them to see where they originated I kept ending up at Polyvore. After landing there a few times I decided to investigate what this Polyvore 'thing' was.

My evaluation...POLYVORE is an AMAZING online tool. Immediately, I kept thinking of ways students could use this tool. The possibilities for education are numerous...character studies, book reports, persuasive writing, and more. The key to remember is the images that are available come from online stores. So if you can buy it online then it should be available in Polyvore.
